Dr. Ismael Cabrera about Gastric Plication: The Gastric Plication is a new, upcoming surgery. As we don’t cut the stomach, so the risks are less. We were part of the first surgeons in Mexico who performed it. We have a lot of experience. I can tell you that it is a good surgery, no-risk procedure and help you to achieve the weight loss surgery!
Gastric Plication, also called Greater Curvature Plication (LGCP), is a simple, promising, and less invasive weight loss procedure performed laparoscopically. Gastric Plication is a restrictive procedure, like a gastric sleeve, that reduces the size of the stomach and limits food intake. It does not bypass your intestines and does not decrease the absorption of nutrients, unlike the gastric bypass.
The Laparoscopic Gastric Plication procedure involves making five or six small incisions in the abdomen for using a video camera (laparoscope) and long instruments that are placed through these small incisions. The next step in this technique is to liberate the stomach from its succession. A french tube is passed through the mouth into the stomach for precise calibration. The first folding is on the outer edge of the stomach with non-absorbable sutures. The second fold reduces the size of the stomach to almost 85% of its original volume.
Gastric Sleeve Plication Facts:
- Patients can expect to lose between 40% to 70% of their excess body weight in the first year after surgery.
- This minimally invasive procedure takes 1-2 hours to perform.
- It is potentially reservable and could be revised to other bariatric procedures if needed.
- There is no cutting or removal of the stomach, intestines.
- No stapling and no foreign object used.
