Gastric Sleeve Surgery
Gastric Sleeve Surgery, or sleeve gastrectomy (SG), is a procedure that permanently reduces the stomach. This reduces the patient’s caloric intake. RNY Gastric Bypass Surgery
RNY Gastric Bypass Surgery is a popular procedure that is even today known as the “Gold Standard” of weight loss surgery. Until the last decade, Gastric Bypass was the most prominent bariatric surgery in the United States and Canada. Recently, the focus has shifted to gastric sleeve.
Gastric Bypass Surgery is a laparoscopic procedure that changes the way a person’s stomach digests their food and how it passes it on to their small intestines. Gastric Banding (LAP BAND)
Gastric Banding Surgery (LAP BAND) is a procedure that uses a silicone implant to restrict the size of the stomach. The LAP-BAND places a circular band around the upper portion of the stomach causing patients’ food intake to reduce. By limiting how much food a gastric band patient can eat, therefore, reducing the calories absorbed.
Over time, it has shown to be very successful for weight loss. However, the gastric band has been fading in recent months due to its high risk of complications, now Dr. Jacqueline Osuna recommends the Gastric Sleeve over Gastric Banding.0
Gastric Plication Surgery
Gastric Sleeve Plication is a laparoscopic surgery that mimics the method of gastric sleeve, with one major difference. Gastric Sleeve Plication folds the stomach inward instead of removing a portion. This is experimental and creates many complications, so we are not recommending it at this time.
Mini Gastric Bypass Surgery
Mini Gastric Bypass (MGB) Surgery was originally developed by the prominent surgeon, Dr. Robert Rutledge, who modified the Billroth II procedure to form the mini bypass. In mini-gastric bypass, a long narrow tube of the stomach is created along its lesser curvature. A loop of the small intestine is then hooked to this tube at about 200 cms from the start of the intestine.
The MGB is becoming more and more popular as an alternative to the Roux en-Y procedure due to the simplicity of its construction and low risk of complications.
